This week, Friday is “Everyday photography” interview day ! And I welcome with great pleasure Greg and his amazing pictures from beautiful Vienna that you can enjoy on his Instagram feed @gregsideris and on his great blog called The Vienna blog that I warmly recommend.
Here is what he says !
Greg was born and raised in Vienna, where he studied Marketing and Communications. He works as European Marketing Leader in a global IT Company and freelances in Photography on the side. Inspired by his parents both fine art jewelry designers he learned the crafting and composition of fine jewelry.
Gregor‘s background in design and crafting fine-art jewelry shaped his photographic style. Taking pictures for me is a creative act like designing a jewelry piece – taking care of composition, structures, colors and harmony. As to him, many basic rules of photography like leading lines, framing and golden rule apply also to jewelry designing. It is both a reflection on art, culture and nature, inspired by beauty and taste. Besides the aesthetics, for Greg breaking the rule is often when it starts to get interesting.
Before Instagram he took pictures with film cameras and DSLRs. Greg is active on Instagram since 2012. Great Instagram photographers have a lot of inspiration for him. He seeks to meet favorite Instagrammers during his travel all over Europe‘s main capital cities. Besides visiting museums he is specially fascinated by the beauty of public parks as here people meeting people in the nature (#urbanescapes).
Gregor lives in Vienna spends his free time with his family, biking, visiting museums and organizing photo walks in Vienna. He recently led a Charity Photo Exhibition for “Medicines without Borders“.
Q1- Among remembering, testifying, documenting, creating a vision or something else, what feels the most inspiring to you in “everyday photography” ?
I personally share the most beautiful moments of the day. We have daily routine work etc… But Instagram should be the place to recharge your brain, let yourself share your best moments and get inspired by others.
Q2- What atmospheres and/or emotions do you try to create or convey when you take these pictures ?
I try to capture inspirational moments. I do love Urban lifestyle and Urban perspectives. It’s for me about the wonderful architecture of cities. One of my favorite places to shoot are public parks with all the wonderful park avenues in French and baroque style. More to find on my blog : www.theviennablog.com
3- What do you seek and appreciate in other people’s “everyday photography” pictures ?
Authenticity is key for me.
Q4- How has Instagram influenced your way of practicing photography ?
I literally see the world in new ways. Just so many things to explore whether here in Vienna with for example lovely backyards or on business and private travels. Its really about capturing these moments.
Q5- What do you most enjoy about Instagram ?
Collaboration online and offline with Instagrammers. I am also Community Manager of Instagrammers Austria and we host over 50 Instameets events every year.
Q6- What is the thing you wish “you had known before” or “somebody had told you earlier” about Instagram ?
The Offline communities of Instagrammers in nearly every city in the world. You can check the Webpage Instagrammers for a community in your city.
I became Instagrammers Austria Community Manager in 2014 and since then the team organizes a lot of Instawalks here in Austria : we meet at specific places and location and enjoy mobile photography.
Q7- Taking a step back, what is the best advice you have or wish you had received about photography ?
Just take your smartphone or camera always with you and start taking pictures. It is not about the gear, its about your experience and the fun you have.
As a conclusion, can you share 3 to 5 Instagram accounts you like and think deserve more visibility ?
There are so many inspirational Instagrammers.
