Hello everyone ! So happy to be here with you today for a new photo interview !
Please let me introduce the talented Johanna from @beautelicieuse that is one of my favorite feeds. One thing I’ve found very interesting with this interview is that Johanna did not practice photography before being on Instagram. I know it is the case for a lot of people and that makes here words all the more inspiring. Let’s discover what she tells us !
My name is Johanna, I’m nearly 28 and I live in Cologne, Germany. I come from a creative family, so I think this is the reason where my art and photography addiction comes from. I studied law and I’m actually working 2 years in the german law system as ‘trainee’. As good balance for this job I love to take pictures as often as possible. When I’m not capturing moments I really like to cook and bake, sometimes my food shows up on my feed. 😉
1- Among remembering, testifying, documenting, creating a vision or something else, what feels the most inspiring to you in “everyday photography” ?
I go crazy for the change of season and everything ‘new’ coming with it. Actually it’s spring time in Germany (I’m so happy to live in a country where we have every season) and the blossom around me brings new energy and creativity. Another hobby of mine is “watching people” in public places. I adore to see how people act when they don’t feel like someone is keeping an eye on them, this is really inspirational! I created the hashtag #inspiremyinstagram which has over 30.000 tags. I found many of my Instagram friends through this and other inspiring tags.
2- What atmospheres and/or emotions do you try to create or convey when you take these pictures ?
Tones are very important for me and also the emotion that comes with a special colour. When I feel some melancholia or joy I try to transport these emotions with the tones in my pictures.
3- What do you seek and appreciate in other people’s “everyday photography” pictures ?
I follow so many different people and therewith themes on Instagram. I appreciate this colourful variety of everything. Sometimes I scroll hours through someones landscape pictures and the other day I’m addicted to coffeeshop inspirations or street art. This is the reason why I love Instagram, the endlessly possibilities of inspiration.
4- How has Instagram influenced your way of practicing photography ?
I started photography because of Instagram, so Instagram influenced me a lot! Before practicing photography I loved to paint in my free time, but I had not enough time for it. I have had already a longtime love affair with colours and different moods in an artistic way – with Instagram I can live this desire.
5- What do you most enjoy about Instagram ?
I adore the variety (how I already answered before) and the fact that Instagram isn’t only a beautiful photo album but also a adorable community. The socialising effect is pretty unique.
6- What is the thing you wish “you had known before” or “somebody had told you earlier” about Instagram ?
I was an absolute newcomer and knew nothing about Instagram. But I learned by doing and I like the way my photography changed with the time. It’s funny to look back at older posts! There is nothing special I would have changed when knowing before.
7- Taking a step back, what is the best advice you have or wish you had received about photography ?
In my eyes, natural light is the key for a good picture.
As a conclusion, can you share 3 to 5 Instagram accounts you like and think deserve more visibility ?
@mylenecybele (moody captures)
@tastyasheck (for heavenly food)
@slowwanderings (endlessly in love with her light and shadow games)
@nma.g (just wonderful)
@kieselle (travel inspiration)
It was such a pleasure to have you in this project, Johanna ! Many thanks to you for joining in !
